Breath of Zorba Restaurant Review, Nikiana, Lefkas

Breath of Zorba - Review

When I was recommended ‘Breath of Zorba’ as a great place to eat on the island my only recollection of it was seeing a swinging sign, somewhere on the road as you drive out of Nikiana. In fact the sign gives no indication of what is, a hidden gem of a restaurant.

As you leave the road you drive into a large car park surrounded by trees and flowers, you drift down the hill into the Taverna that is completely open air under a huge veranda and spills onto the beach.  The setting is idyllic in an almost exclusive cove. You can swim, have some lunch with wine and before you know it the sun is beginning to set.

The menu consists of traditional Greek food that has been cooked to an exceptional standard. There is a good choice of meats and salads but the restaurant specialty is fish and seafood.

My personal favourites are the Tomato Fried Balls for starter and the Fried Calamari for main course, with a fresh Greek Salad on the side.
Panos and Eleni, the owners and hosts of this restaurant, are very attentive and the service is superb.

I would strongly suggest you seek this place out and give it a try. Choose a lovely sunny day, when you don’t need to rush anywhere else for quite a while, you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Bob Burton the Musical Director, works tirelessly with the cast to get the score right.

Alice Hatch with her two able assistants, Roma and Jacqueline, make the magnificent costumes that bring the show to life.

Roma Middleton, who takes the role of Stage Manager to make sure it all runs smoothly on the night.

Vicky & Rauri, and the rest of the Yacht Club team, who let their club be taken over for months on end for rehearsals and shows.

Ellie and Hannah who do the amazing make-up for the show.

and last but not least Philomena Matheson, the Director of the show (the pictures are blurred because she doesn't stand still long enough to get a still one)
