Breath of Zorba Restaurant Review, Nikiana, Lefkas
Breath of Zorba - Review
When I was recommended ‘Breath of
Zorba’ as a great place to eat on the island my only recollection of it was
seeing a swinging sign, somewhere on the road as you drive out of Nikiana. In
fact the sign gives no indication of what is, a hidden gem of a restaurant.
As you leave the road you drive into a large
car park surrounded by trees and flowers, you drift down the hill into the
Taverna that is completely open air under a huge veranda and spills onto the
beach. The setting is idyllic in an
almost exclusive cove. You can swim, have some lunch with wine and before you know
it the sun is beginning to set.
The menu consists of traditional
Greek food that has been cooked to an exceptional standard. There is a good
choice of meats and salads but the restaurant specialty is fish and seafood.
My personal favourites are the Tomato Fried Balls for starter and the Fried Calamari for main course, with a
fresh Greek Salad on the side. Panos and Eleni, the owners and hosts of this restaurant, are very attentive and the service is superb.
I
would strongly suggest you seek this place out and give it a try. Choose a
lovely sunny day, when you don’t need to rush anywhere else for quite a while,
you certainly won’t be disappointed.
